Historical Information

The Virginia Education Association was organized as the Educational Association of Virginia at a convention in Petersburg on 29 December 1863. The name was changed in 1891 to Virginia Educational Association and, again, in 1898 to Virginia Teachers' League. During part of 1901, it bore the name Teachers' League of Virginia and, from 1901 to 1925, the name Virginia State Teachers Association was adopted.
